Ticker: AAL : LSE Description: Anglo American plc, through its subsidiaries, engages in the mining and natural resource operations worldwide. It operates through eight divisions: Platinum, Gold, Diamonds, Coal, Base Metals, Industrial Minerals, Paper and Packaging, and Ferrous Metals and Industries. The Platinum division mines, processes, refines, and markets a range of platinum group metals, including platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium, and osmium. The Gold division has mining interest in gold properties and has predominantly 50.9% interest in independently managed subsidiary AngloGold Ashanti. The Diamonds division engages in the production and marketing of gem diamonds, as well as sorts, values, and sells rough gem diamonds. The Coal division produces thermal, pulverised coal injection, and metallurgical and coking coals. The Base Metals division comprises copper, zinc, nickel, and mineral sands operations. The Industrial Minerals division produces construction materials, such as crushed rock, sand and gravel, asphalt, concrete and mortar, concrete products, lime, and cement, as well as phosphate fertilizers. The Paper and Packaging division manufactures pulp, graphic papers, packaging papers, board, and converted packaging, as well as solid wood products. The Ferrous Metals and Industries division comprises iron ore, chrome, manganese, carbon steel, and vanadium operations. Anglo American was founded by Ernest Oppenheimer in 1917 and is headquartered in London.
