The company was founded in May 1985 as Canadian Gravity Recovery Group, Ltd. and changed its name to CanAlaska Resources, Ltd. in June 1985. Further, it changed name to International CanAlaska Resources, Ltd. in September 1993; CanAlaska Ventures, Ltd. in October 1999; and to CanAlaska Uranium, Ltd. in October 2006.
