Stillwater Mining Company engages in the exploration, development, extraction, processing, and refining of palladium, platinum, and associated minerals in Montana, the United States. Its mining operations consist of the Stillwater Complex, which hosts the J-M Reef ore deposit, located in the Beartooth Mountains in south central Montana; the East Boulder Mine located in Sweet Grass County; and a smelter and refinery located in Columbus. As of December 31, 2005, the company's total proven palladium and platinum ore reserves were approximately 4.12 million tons at an average grade of 0.59 ounce per ton, containing approximately 2.5 million ounces of palladium plus platinum. Stillwater Mining was incorporated in 1992 and is headquartered in Billings, Montana. Stillwater Mining Co. operates as a subsidiary of Norimet Ltd.
